Gerard was born in Franklin, LA, and grew up in Morgan City, LA. He moved to Franklin later in life where he developed a passion for carpentry that would become his life’s work. He started his own company, Gerard’s Carpentry, which not only showcased his skills but also served as a testament to his hard work and creativity. His hands were rarely still, as he found solace and joy in working cows, farming, and creating with wood.
A man of many interests, Gerard relished the freedom of the open road on his motorcycle, the serenity of fishing, and the satisfaction of a well-built piece of furniture. His happy-go-lucky nature was infectious, and he was often described as funny, handy, and creative by those who knew him.
He was a dedicated member of the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church, where he formed lasting friendships and found spiritual solace. Gerard’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through both good times and challenging moments.
Gerard’s legacy is carried on by his loving daughters, Kimberly Hindbaugh of Gracemont and Jessica Lynn Huffmyer of Virginia; his adored grandchildren, Aqua, Madden, Isley, Trinidee Joe, Jazminn Diane, and Jesse Jy-Lee; his brothers, Bernie J Alfred Jr. (Pauline), David Alfred (Kim Jo), Bede Alfred (Susan), and Johnny Jordan (Rhonda); and his sisters, Debbie Beadle, Bridget Thibodeaux, Carla Autin (Chuck), Regina Brown, and Becky Clark. His life was enriched by the love and companionship of his extended family and friends.
Gerard was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie John Alfred, Sr. and Rita Mae (Grandin) Alfred Clark; his son, Gerard “J” James Alfred Jr.; his sister, Karen Knight; his brother, Roy Clark Jr.; and his special friend, Carrol Jordan.
Gerard’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his memory will be celebrated with stories of his humor, his craftsmanship, and the love he had for his family and friends. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, just as it did when he walked among us.
