Chickasha sends five students to Girls State


Five Chickasha High School students were selected by the American Legion Hurst-Beaton Post 54 to serve as delegates to 2024 Oklahoma Girls State. Emery Butler, Ava Posey, Alexis Wilson, Izzie Butler, and Kaytlin Keith attended the May 26 – May 31 event at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
Girls State is a nationwide program of Americanism and good citizenship sponsored by the American Legion. It is a non-political, non-partisan program designed to enhance the love of God and Country in the youth of America. Girls State delegates learn the duties and responsibilities of citizenship by participation as citizens of mythical cities, counties, and states.
To be considered for Oklahoma Girls State, a young woman must be between their junior and senior year of high school. Each interested applicant must complete an application and be approved by a local American Legion Post.
Delegates to Oklahoma Girls State are chosen for their high moral character, leadership, honesty, scholarship, and interest in government. Since its inception, thousands of girls have received this valuable citizenship training in Oklahoma.
Emery Butler — Emery is the daughter of Raylee and Michael Butler, of Chickasha. She’s involved in Varsity Cheer, Chickasha Honors and AP Programs, Chickasha National Honor Society, Chickasha National Honor Society Vice President, rank 2nd in the class of 2025. Volunteers at Life Skills Institute and Resurrection House, Chickasha Festival of Light, and First Baptist Church food pantry. As a member of Southern Baptist Church, she’s involved in its Youth Group as part of the Leadership Team, as well as attending a mission trip every spring break to help various communities. Emery is sponsored by First National Bank and Trust.
Ava Posey — Ava is the daughter of Libby and Travis Posey, of Chickasha. She’s involved in Varsity Volleyball and StuCo. She’s active in Baptist Church Mission Trips, volunteers at soup kitchen, helped with 5 K/marathons and helped run proms. Ava is sponsored by Mosley Agency Inc..
Alexis Wilson — Alexis is the daughter of Jessica and Cody Wilson, of Chickasha. She’s involved in Varsity Volleyball and Power lifting. She volunteers with 2 – 5 year old services and the youth group at Assembly of God. Alexis is sponsored by Hank and Alison Ross.
Izzie Butler — Izzie is the daughter of Zack and Deserae Butler, of Chickasha. She’s involved in PCM, FFA, and Honor Society. Volunteers with the Special Olympics, walk to Stillwater to raise money for the Special Olympics. A member of the Baptist Church active in its Youth Group. Izzie is sponsored by Charles Allen Ford.
Kaytlin Keith — Kaytlin is the daughter of Amanda Keith, of Chickasha. She’s involved in Varsity Soccer, Varsity Volleyball, Varsity Tennis, National Honors Society, National Honors Technical Society, Volunteer Club, a HOSA member, and a Festival of Light volunteer. Kaytlin is sponsored by Brandi’s Grill LLC.
The Oklahoma Girls State program receives wholehearted support from citizens, civic groups, and other organizations interested in good government and youth leadership.
