Girls State is a nationwide program of Americanism and good citizenship sponsored by the American Legion. It is a non-political, non-partisan program designed to enhance the love of God and Country in the youth of America. Girls State delegates learn the duties and responsibilities of citizenship by participation as citizens of mythical cities, counties, and states.
To be considered for Oklahoma Girls State, a young woman must be between their junior and senior year of high school. Each interested applicant must complete an application and be approved by a local American Legion Post.
Delegates to Oklahoma Girls State are chosen for their high moral character, leadership, honesty, scholarship, and interest in government. Since its inception, thousands of girls have received this valuable citizenship training in Oklahoma.
