Chickasha man dies when motorcycle hits hog


A Chickasha man died Wednesday, Oct. 2, when a hog wandered onto U.S. 81 a half-mile north of Rush Springs in Grady County.

Timothy J. Novotny, 70, was southbound on a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcyle at 8:09 a.m. when the hog crossed the road from west to east. Novotny’s motorcyle hit the hog and he was thrown from the bike onto the pavement.

He was transported by Air Evac to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.

The accident report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol noted that Novotny was wearing a helmet.

The investigating officer, Trooper Mark Smith, was assisted at the scene by Trooper Tyler Shelby, the Rush Springs Police Department, Grady County Sheriff’s Office, Rush Springs Fire/EMS and Air Evac.
