A recent letter from Robin Burton, Grady County Treasurer, to Grady County Taxpayers clarifies that half payments on ad valorem (property) taxes will not be accepted after the January 1st deadline.
Oklahoma statutes allows property owners to pay their real estate taxes in two increments if they wish, however, the first half will need to be paid before January 1st if they wish to divide the tax into two payments.
According to officials, interest and penalties do not begin until after January 15th, and in the past, treasurers may have been able to accept half payments up to January 15th, but according to state laws, after January 1st the entire amount of the tax is due.
Should a taxpayer make a half payment prior to the end of the year, then the balance is due no later than the last day of March, and penalties for late payment begin to be assessed on April 1st.
The treasurer’s letter also reiterates that if property owners have not received statements by the end of November, a call or contact should be made to the treasures office to ascertain what is owed for real estate, personal, and /or business taxes.
Taxes can be paid in person, by mail, or over the phone with a card, or on the website www.oktaxrolls.com with a credit or bank card or e-check.
