The Duncan, Chickasha and Waurika school districts worked with local authorities last Thursday and Friday to investigate threatening images and statements on social media. Waurika went so far as to cancel classes Friday.
Duncan Supterintendent Dr. Channa Byerly said the district had been “aware of statements and images that circulated on social media last night.”
Each district worked with local law enforcement to investigate the threats.
“In full cooperation with the Duncan Police Department, we have conducted an exhaustive investigation into every possibility presented to us, “Byerly said. “At this time, we have not identified a credible threat to our schools, students, staff or visitors.”
Byerly also said they are going to increase security and police personnel at Duncan school sites.
In Waurika the threats were deemed “non-viable” by officials.
Classes resumed normally on Monday.
