The University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma invites alumni, students and friends of the university to “The Golden Era” Homecoming Nov. 1-3, celebrating 50 years since the institution was renamed from the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts. This monumental celebration will be filled with nostalgia, reconnection and community spirit.
“We are excited to welcome everyone back to campus and the Chickasha community,” said Whitney Palesano, director of alumni relations and university development. “With significant growth and development, this homecoming is a perfect opportunity to celebrate our shared history and future. We hope our alumni from all eras will join us in enjoying the weekend’s events, reconnect with old friends, and witness the remarkable evolution of USAO and Chickasha.”
The festivities kick off on Friday, Nov. 1, with a community night in downtown Chickasha, reconnecting alumni with their college town. Experience the vibrant changes and new additions to Chickasha while reminiscing about the past. This come-and-go event will feature various activities highlighting Chickasha as a dynamic college town.
On Saturday, Nov. 2, the day begins with a celebratory brunch to honor this year’s Hall of Fame inductees and recipient of the Young Alumni Award. Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with fellow alumni, share memories, and discuss the future of USAO. The excitement continues with a tailgate before the homecoming basketball games, culminating in an evening honoring our legends.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 3 to celebrate the lives and contributions of our departed community members, followed by a reception at the Stevens Alumni House.
USAO, originally founded as the Oklahoma Industrial Institute and College for Girls in 1908, has evolved throughout its 116 years. From OIICG to the Oklahoma College for Women and later the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts, our institution has a storied past dedicated to education and growth. In 1974, we embraced our current name, the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma. Although our name has changed, one thing has remained the same—the university has done things differently than any other institution of higher education in the state in providing a special kind of education to a special kind of student.
