A Duncan man who allegedly shot and killed another man July 19 at an apartment complex on Country Club Road has been identified as Jesse Wayne James Keenan. The victim, identified as Kayden Cook, was declared dead at 9:44 p.m. at Magnolia Manor Apartments.
Keenan faces a second-degree murder charge and a first-degree manslaughter charge.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation took over the case due to the suspect and victim having tribal affiliations. The FBI filed an affidavit, which stated witnesses identified Keenan as the shooter. Keenan was then later detained.
After waiving his Miranda rights, Keenan told his side of the story, saying a fight had begun before he pulled a gun and shot the side of the victim’s chest. Keenan then left the crime scene. The discarded weapon was late found around some bushes. Police discovered the serial number had been scratched off.
All persons accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless and until his or her guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
