Coy Davidson of the Elgin FFA Chapter won first place in the state FFA employment skills leadership development event during the 2023 Oklahoma FFA Interscholastic at Oklahoma State University on April 29. Davidson will represent Oklahoma in the employment skills CDE at the National FFA Convention in October. His agricultural education instructors and FFA advisors are Travis Bradshaw, Cassie Graham and John Lastly.
Dusty McLean of the Kingfisher FFA Chapter, Annie Simpson of the Edmond FFA Chapter, Kendall Neilee Guinn of the Porter FFA Chapter and Gracie Selzer of the Alex FFA Chapter placed second through fifth, respectively.
The employment skills CDE is designed for FFA members to develop, practice, and demonstrate skills needed in seeking employment in the agricultural industry.
Each participant must create a cover letter and résumé and complete a job application prior to the contest. Personal interviews are conducted during this event. Participants also submit a follow-up letter after the personal interview.
The OSU Ferguson College of Agriculture hosted the contest. AFR Cooperative provides a cash award for expenses related to participation in the national contest. Claremore Industrial and Economic Development will provide a $1,000 scholarship to the state winner.
