A young Lace Bark Elm tree is now growing at the Grady County fairgrounds, courtesy of the Grady County OHCE. It was planted in memory of Mary Bailey.
The OHCE Resource Management committee chose to honor Mary because of her dedication to enrich the lives of the residents of Grady County. She was a lifetime resident of Chickasha.
Mary began teaching history in Chickasha in 1933. Her real passion was researching and teaching history. She brought great insight and enthusiasm to her discussions about Oklahoma history, especially that of Grady County and Chickasha. She is remembered fondly by many in Grady County.
