Free Fitness Programs at the Chickasha Public Library


 Starting September 13, the Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative (OHAI) will be hosting a new set of Staying Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) classes at the Chickasha Public Library, located at 527 W Iowa Ave.
 SAIL is a fitness program for older adults, and can be done sitting or standing. Performing exercise that improves strength, balance and fitness is critical for staying active and reducing the risk of falls. The SAIL program was designed with these principals in mind. Each class includes warm-up, stretching, cardio, balance, and strengthening exercise, as well as a cool down.
 The SAIL fitness classes are geared toward older adults and are held weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. The classes will be from September 13 through December 29, with a break from October 18 to November 1.
 Classes are free, but registration is required and space is limited to allow for proper social distancing. To register for a class or for more information, please call 918-660-3172 or email Nile-Burge@ouhsc.edu.
 Participants who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine are asked to wear a mask. Those who are uncomfortable attending in person may check OHAI’s Facebook page fore virtual offerings.

Tai Chi Classes for Beginning and Continuing Students
 Tai Chi movements help older adults reduce their risk of falling while also increasing balance and flexibility. Participants continue to improve their overall mind, body, and spirit through a series of slow, continuous movements. It does not matter how strong, flexible, or active you are Tai Chi is designed for people at all levels of health.
 The Chickasha Public Library offers this session of Tai Chi for students who have taken this class previously. Library Director Lillie Huckaby will lead the sessions via a recording. Classes meet Tuesdays and Fridays from 2-3 pm. If you are interested in joining the class, please register by calling 405-222-6075 or emailing lillie.huckaby@chickasha.org.
 The Chickasha Public Library also offers Tai Chi Moving for Better Balance for beginners. Classes meet Mondays and Thursdays from 2-3. Library Director Lillie Huckaby will teach the classes.
