Late September rains are no longer holding off burn bans in most of southwest Oklahoma.
Commissioners in Grady and Caddo counties passed burn ban resolutions Monday at the recommendations of municipal and county fire chiefs. There is to be no trash, brush, or pasture burning, no campfires or bonfires, and no fireworks. Welding is permitted, however, Grady County Emergency Management Director Dale Thompson said precautions must be taken.
In southwest Oklahoma, burn bans are also in effect in Comanche, Kiowa, Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Tillman and Cotton counties.
Stephens County remains ban-free, according to the Oklahoma Forestry Services website.
Outdoor cooking is allowed with charcoal and propane grills but must away from vegetation that may catch fire. The burn bans are in effect until Oct. 28th. Individuals can face up to one year in jail and a $500 fine if convicted of violating the ban.
