Barbara Ann Wheat

Barbara Ann (Horn) Wheat was born on December 29, 1946, in Carnegie, Oklahoma, to Dean Carl Horn and Dora Lavell (Roland) Horn. She was called to her eternal rest on September 24, 2024, in Corn, Oklahoma, at the age of 77.
Barbara was a resident of Fort Cobb for most of her life. She was a graduate of the 1965 Fort Cobb High School Class. During her school years, she was involved in various activities and basketball. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Cobb and Carnegie. Barbara spent a majority of her life taking care of her home and raising her children. She had various jobs outside of the home including working at Hollytex Carpet Mills and the Caddo County Court Clerk’s office. Barbara was an enthusiastic supporter of her kids’ activities.
Barbara married George Larry Wheat and together they had three daughters, Laura, Kellie, and Traci. Later in life, she met her soulmate, Marcus Art Carpenter and they spent twenty years together until his passing on January 11, 2017.
Barbara’s pride and joy was her family. She lived for every moment she could spend with them. She was their biggest fan and they made her proud. She loved to play bingo with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Barbara had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She had a kind and warm heart which made her a friend to all. Barbara loved the Lord and was faithful to pray for her family and friends. She was empathetic, encouraging, and genuinely cared about others. Her memory will live on in the lives of everyone that knew her and she will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish the memory of Barbara are her daughters and their families, Laura and Danny Graham of Carnegie, Kellie and Pepper Martin of Norman, Traci and Cory Sutton of Oklahoma City, grandchildren, Ty and Melanie Graham of Pawnee, Jill and Shane McGlothlin of Carnegie, Chris Graham of Weatherford, Callie and Grant Hawkins of Tahlequah, Josh Martin of Norman, Hope Martin of Norman, Brookelyn Sutton of Oklahoma City, and Alexandria Sutton of Oklahoma City, great-grandchildren, Deacon, Eva, Elise, Iris, Gibson, Barrett, and Kanyon. Art’s daughters, Karan Sanders, Joey Fletcher, and Loni Frances, and their families. Siblings include her brothers, Spencer Horn of Chickasha and Johnny and Melissa Horn of Midwest City, sister, Delora and Ricky Lee of Fort Cobb, along with her nieces, nephews, and many beloved cousins.
Barbara was preceded in death by Art Carpenter, her parents, Dean Carl and Dora Lavell Horn, sister-in-law, Virginia Horn, and nephew, Shawn Dean Horn.
Visitation for Barbara is set to be held from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Fort Cobb Funeral Home.
A funeral service to honor the life of Barbara is set to begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Carnegie First Baptist Church with Lynn Bellamy officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Fort Cobb Cemetery following the service.
Services are under the direction of Fort Cobb Funeral Home in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma.
