A Guide to Giving; Food Bank Gifts

by: Chickasha Today Staff

Things learned from those in need of food from area food banks and how you can help.
Donations of mac and cheese in the box can rarely be used because it needs milk and butter which is often hard to get from food banks. However, boxed milk is a treasure, as kids need it for cereal which they also get a lot of, and for the mac and cheese.
Canned veggies and soup need a can opener or pop-top lids. Oil is a food bank luxury needed for Rice a-Roni which they also get a lot of. Salt and pepper, tea bags, coffee, sugar, and flour are treats to many. Eggs are a real commodity as is fresh meat and produce.
Tuna and crackers make a good lunch, but Hamburger Helper goes nowhere without ground beef.
They also need bread to go with peanut butter and jelly. Cake mixes and frosting make it possible to make a child’s birthday cake.
Dishwashing detergent and Feminine hygiene products are always appreciated. Thanks for donating to our local food banks. You make life better for families and kids.
