“It was a total surprise!” said Jordan Green, a local barber at the Nail and Hair Saloon in Chickasha. Jordan was referring to Kent Ogle with KFOR TV walking in with the ‘Pay It 4Ward’ news team Thursday morning, Aug. 29.
Jordan was nominated by family friend Brenda Bryant of Chickasha for his recent volunteer efforts at the Michigan Avenue Baptist Church’s Back to School Bash. The event was scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon.
A post on the Church media page states: “This guy is a ROCKSTAR! We think Jordan Green did at least 50 free haircuts at the Back to School Bash. When our other stylists didn’t show up, he said he would handle it. He stayed an hour and a half past the event and time to make sure that every kid that wanted a cut got it. He went way above and beyond – and was a blessing to so many families! We can’t say thank you enough!”
Not only did Jordan fill in for two barbers that did not show up and worked past the time of the event, he invited the remaining kids to come to the shop on Choctaw, where after his appointments, he finished their haircuts.
“I know how important it is to start school with a fresh haircut,” said Jordan, “and these kids need to have a good start.”
He told Kent Ogle that it just makes him feel good, to help make other people feel good.
The program’s sponsor, a bank in Oklahoma City, furnished the $400 that was given to Bryant to count out to Jordan. He said he would probably spend it on his truck.
Chickasha Mayor Zack Grayson also was on hand to present Jordan with a City Citation commending him for making Chickasha a great place to live.
The event was planned by La Prinia Richardson, owner of the Nail and Hair Saloon where Jordan has practiced his trade for the last four years. To keep the Pay it 4Ward presentation secret, La Prinia planned a Co-Workers Appreciation Day for the workers in the salon and their guests. Nail and Hair Saloon has been in the same location at 5th and Choctaw for 25 years as of the first of August. Darrell and Brenda Mollett own the building that originally was the Coca Cola Bottling Plant in the early days of Chickasha.
Pizza was furnished for the occasion by Fred McNatt’s Legends Pub House and Venue.
It seemed like Jordan’s attitude was ‘This is nice, but I gotta get these kids hair cut’ as he continued to work behind the barber chair throughout the 2 hour celebration.
Ogle said the presentation will air Wednesday, Sept. 11, on the 10 o’clock news on KFOR TV. Chickasha will be watching!
