The Duncan Farmers Market season will be in full swing this month and through September. The Farmer’s Market’s expansion, the Garden Hub, has indoor shopping between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Market celebrated National Farmers Market Week earlier this month, but Robin Arter, Think Ability’s Executive Director, said all of August is recognized as Farmers Market Month and that the farmers market lasts five months every year.
She also noted the Garden Hub is open six days a week during the year to provide the community with Oklahoma-grown produce. According to Arter, home gardeners and local farmers sell their seasonal produce on a consignment basis.
“This arrangement allows farmers to avoid the rigors of setting up in the heat after a long day in the fields,” Arter said, “while customers benefit from the comfort of shopping for fresh local produce in an air-conditioned environment.”
Arter said their vendors not only sell vegetables and fruit, they also offer pickles, jams, jellies, bread that is freshly baked and sweet treats. Arter said they also offer meats like beef, chicken, lamb and pork. These meats also come from local ranches and farms.
Acceptable forms of payment include SNAP, Senior and tribal benefits.
The Farmers Market is at 2113 W. Beech Ave.
