117th Stephens County Fair offers events for all ages

4-H Club members, FFA students, OHCE ladies and others from Stephens County are preparting for the 117th Stephens County Free Fair taking place at the Stephens County Fairgrounds. There will be all types of exhibits, livestock shows, commercial booths, vendors, a carnival, and plenty of sweet and savory treats.
 The fair gets under way on Wednesday this week,Aug. 14, as the Oklahoma Home & Community Education, 4-H, textiles, horticulture and sciences will be entered for judging.
 On Thursday, Aug. 15, there will be a judging of exhibits, which will be closed to the public until after the exhibits are judged.
At 6 p.m., there will be a crochet-a-chain contest and livestock entries will be accepted between 6-8 p.m.
Thursday evening, the Comanche Ag Boosters will be selling walking tacos. Each day lunch is available between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and evening dinner is served between 5-8 p.m. Slices of homemade pies of all descriptions will also be available between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. that is guaranteed to be some of the best in the county provided by the women of the OHCE groups.
 Exhibits and trade show be open for viewing on Friday between 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will be exhibits for vegetables, art, household science, horticulture, crafts and photography.
 Also on Friday, the homemade pie show takes place at 3 p.m. The pies at the will be judged based on their flavor, crust texture, filling and overall appearance. A copy of the recipe is also required for judging. Those who win Best of Show and Best Pie Maker will be awarded aprons. This applies to both adult and youth divisions. Judging of the pies will be open to the public.
 The poultry show will take place at 6 p.m. Lunch for Friday will be loaded spuds, provided by Comanche Homemakers. For dinner, there will be hamburgers, chips and a drink. They will be provided by the Stephens County Livestock Growers. Exhibits and the trade show will take place between 1-9 p.m.
 Saturday will feature the livestock shows beginning at 8 a.m., swine show at 9:30 a.m.
 Saturday also features a kiddie pedal tractor pull at 10 a.m. Also Between 3-5 p.m., there will be free gospel singing.
 The Stephens County 4-H will provide Indian tacos. on Saturday for lunch and dinner will be provided by the Empire Ag Boosters featuring chicken spaghetti and garlic bread.
 Other fair food choices include the Stephens County 4-H Clubs concession stand in the Arena Building and food at the Carnival set up at the south end of the fair property.
 Entries are open to any resident in Stephens County. Members of the community are encouraged to participate; to showcase their talent and potentially win award ribbons.
 A carvival is set up and ready to provide rides and games for kids of all ages and will be open each evening of the fair.
