It could be a problem – if you release 6 Billion dollars in embargoed funds to Iran, and millions are given to the Palestinian Authority, and you left 83 billion worth of military equipment in Afghanistan. Israel faced a well-coordinated terrorist attack by Hamas in Gaza from land, sea, and air, also from underground tunnels between Gaza and Israeli territory that was executed with planning support and weapons from Iran. Over 800 innocent civilian casualties and countless barbaric atrocities later they declared war on Hamas. Hezbollah is launching scattered attacks from the North too.
It could be a problem – if it takes 15 ballots to elect a Speaker of the House. He might want to get everyone in his party in a room often to make sure they are satisfied. A failure to do this may cause him to lose his position – as it has. Blaming the people that objected to your leadership methods after you made agreements with them to get the position doesn’t exactly promote party unity either. No one wins when you prolong the controversy by getting in front of the TV cameras with your hurt feelings.
In our area. It could be a problem – if you build a new water plant for Chickasha without fixing the water distribution system that leaks. A local rancher said “that is like buying more cows because a large number of your herd is missing and not fixing the broken fences first”. Water production varies from summer to winter, but some numbers were: 4.1 million gallons treated and the city only billed for 2.8 million gallons. At another time 2.8 million gallons were treated when only 1.8 million gallons were billed. Many factors contribute to this that include water leaks, flushing lines, and faulty meter equipment, but it appears to be a situation worth taking seriously. The brown, dirty, smelly water has been attributed to the lake water and the current plant operating in excess of its abilities – even if it was rated at 6 million gallons capacity at one point in the past. (The contaminants left in the water are blamed on the water being passed through so fast the chemicals they put in it don’t have time to have the desired effect). If the leaky distribution system pipelines were replaced instead of being bandaged (so less water had to be processed), maybe the ladies in that town could start buying white clothes again without having them discolored when washed. The constant digging into the pavement to fix all the water line blowouts is so bad that Pothole golf as a new sport could be the next rival to Pickle Ball there.
It could be a problem – if additional TIFs are approved. Quoting a Chickasha City Councilman “The last one didn’t work out too well”. TIFs can leave our first responders high and dry because they have to cover more buildings etc. without more manpower – because new tax money is paid out instead of going where it should. The budget strain might make salary increases difficult for them. The last TIF paid out 2.1 million from the city. Imagine if part of that money would have been used to replace pipelines that are past their lifetimes (because of so many blowouts) and move them out from under the pavement.
Thanks to our readers for recognizing “It could be a problem” – and mentioning how little kids understand lighting up a Christmas Tree, but maybe not a 40ft woman’s leg. Readers saying “we have gotten away from tradition, morals, and just common sense” and “if we don’t stand for something we will fall for anything” was right on target. I could not think of words that are more appropriate.
Well Said!!
