A heavy down-pour of rain may have been a contributing factor in a fatal crash 2 miles east of Cyril on Wednesday, October 4 at approximately 3:15 pm.
According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports, a 2023 Kia Soul, driven by Brenda F. Naputi, 67, of Lawton, Oklahoma was west bound on US-277 while a 2006 Chevrolet truck, driven by, George S. Hicks, 79, of Hawley, Texas 2 was east bound on US-277, both vehicles were in a heavy down pour of rain. For an unknown reason the Kia Soul was left of center and vehicles struck head on.
Driver of the Kia Soul was pronounced deceased on scene by Kirk’s EMS and transported by Medical Examiner Ron Jackson to the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s office in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Cris C. Naputi, 72, of Lawton, Oklahoma, a passenger in the Kia Soul was pinned for approximately 30 minutes and freed by Cement and Cyril Fire Department using a hydraulic rescue tool, and transported by Kirk’s EMS to Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma. Then transferred by Comanche County Memorial Ambulance to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was admitted in critical condition with head and internal trunk injuries.
The driver of the 2006 Chevrolet truck was not injured in the collision.
