Ninnekah Public Schools are asking voters in the school district to approve a $19,590,000 bond issue which is repaid over fifteen years at no more that 10% interest. The bond if passed would replace an expiring bond and therefore not raise taxes on real estate in the district according to school officials.
The funds raised, according to ballot lanquage, are to be used for “constructing, equipping, repairing and remodeling school buildings, acquiring school furniture, fixtures and equipment and acquiring and improving school sites”.
A second bond issue to be voted on seperately is to raise $400,000 for the “purpose of purchasing transportation equipment”. That bond would be collected over a five year period.
According to a published information page on the school’s website, Proposition #1 funds would be used for a new gymnasium and High School and AG Facility improvements. The site says “It will create an updated and healthier space for our students to excel, provide safe rooms for emergencies, facilitate hosting other schools for competitions, and serve as a versatile space for community events and graduations.”
High School improvements would “create a secure entry, make restrooms ADA-compliant, update administrative areas, remove lockers to improve mobility in the hallways, and modernize classrooms to provide better learning environments.
The AG Facility improvements would include “Enclosing the AG Dirt Barn with new walls and a concrete floor ensures a safer and more versatile space for students. It protects against the weather, offers a clean environment, and enables year-round agricultural education and hands-on learning opportunities”.
Proposition #2 $400,000 for Transportation would be for “Ensuring the safety and reliability of our students’ transportation … New buses will help maintain safety and reduce maintenance costs, expecially taking into considration the wear and tear caused by continual use as well as road conditions.”
The two bond issues are separate issues and one proposition does not depend on the other being approved.
Oklahoma state statutes requires school bond issues to be approved by a super majority, a 60% yes vote to pass.

Blanchard Public Schools in McClain County also wanting voters to approved a $69,225,000 construction bond and a $1,500,000 bond issue for transportation. The Blanchard School District laps over into Grady County and some Grady County residents will have the opportunity to vote on those issues on October 10.
