Soprano, Madeline Roberson, is returning from a year at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, United Kingdom, where she is studying in their post-graduate Opera performance program. She will be performing in her hometown of Chickasha at 6:30pm, September 2, 2023, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 127 S. 6th. A reception will follow in the St. Luke’s Parish Hall.
This concert is part of the St Luke’s 130th Anniversary Arts Series which will include “A Night of Our Favorite Things” dramatic production in conjunction with the USAO drama department and the second annual “Art is for Everyone” show and sale.
Ms. Roberson is a 2018 graduate of Chickasha High School and made her stage debut at the age of five with the Chickasha Community Theatre. She was featured in numerous CCT and USAO productions during her years in Chickasha. She was a two-time All-State Music Selection while at CHS.
She began studying classical vocal performance with Dr. Leslie Flanagan at the University of Oklahoma at 15 years of age. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal performance from OU where she performed the lead role in Bach’s Coffee Cantata, had a featured role in The Magic Flute, and had a chorus role in The Scarlett Letter. She spent the summer of 2022 performing at Opera Viva in Verona, Italy. She began her post-graduate work at RNCM in September 2022 where she has been selected for three workshops at Opera North, in Leeds, UK and has been a featured soloist with many choirs around Northern England. She currently studies voice with Elizabeth Ritchie.
The concert is free to the public and will feature both arias and art songs. Roberson says the sanctuary at St Luke’s is one of her favorite places to sing, thanks to its outstanding 123 year old acoustics. She served St. Luke’s as a nursery worker and as cantor for a summer while in high school. Ms. Roberson is excited to bring a taste of Opera to Chickasha and hopes to inspire other children in Chickasha to pursue careers in the Arts.
