Debra Lavone (Stapp) Watts was born on September 12, 1953 in Comanche, Oklahoma to Betty Lavone (White) Stapp of Comanche and James Fred Stapp of Alex, Oklahoma. She passed away in her home in Duncan, Oklahoma just short of her seventieth birthday surrounded by her loving family on Monday, August 21, 2023. She was a 15 year victim of dementia.
A graveside service was held in Duncan Municipal Cemetery on Thursday, August 24 with close family friend Steve Fair officiating.
Debra (Debbie) grew up and attended school in various towns but graduated high school at Empire near Duncan. Her step-father was Clyde Qualls.
Debbie married Wayne Watts on August 5th, 1983 in Rockwall Texas and they just celebrated 40 years together. Together they have two children, Jami Lynn (Black) Miller and husband Shawn Miller of Wheeler, Texas and Christopher Wayne Watts and wife Wesley Supron of Duncan.
Other family members include Grandson Jacob Helton and Leayh Jasmine of Wheeler, Texas and Granddaughter Jenna Helton of Wheeler, Texas. She leaves 2 sisters, Connie Kindle of Awbrey, Texas and Lori (Tammy) Dalrymple and husband Dwyann of Little Elm, Texas, and a brother, James Stapp and wife Carol of Awbrey, Texas. Also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Others include her caretaker and daily companion for the past three years, Connie Adams of Randlett, OK; Her father, James Stapp, Amarillo, Texas along with step sister, Shelly Stapp and step brother Rick Stapp of Plano,Texas.
She was preceeded in death by an infant son, Johnny, her mother Betty Qualls and Stepfather, Clyde Qualls, her stepmonther Patti Stapp, her Mother-in-law, Helen Watts and Brother-in-Law Steve Watts, several aunts and uncles.
Following graduation from high school, Debbie began a medical profession as an ER Clerk at Duncan Regional Hospital, and worked for various doctors, specializing in medical coding and billing, but also patient intake and care. She worked for and assisted heart specialists, surgeons, several internists, podiatrist, nephroligist, physical therapist, family practicionersand managed the offices for the anesthesiologists assigned to Comanche Memorial Hospital. She had a knack for collecting from insurance companies.
In 2003 together with Wayne founded the Washita Valley Shopper in Chickasha and later purchased the Chisholm Trail Shopper, now Chisholm Trail Community News in Duncan. She learned to be a graphic artist alongside of managing the business office.
Debbie had a beautiful singing voice and loved singing in her home churches of Gatlin and Lakeside Baptist. She loved serving God and others and had a kind heart for all creatures. She imparted to her family the importance of being moral and upright citizens with integrity. She will be greatly missed.
The family appreciates the services of Helping Hands Hospice including nurses Sara, Dana and Mayci in assisting; everyone who called, visited, prayed and brought food and other acts of kindness.
Funeral services were under the care of Carter-Smart Funeral Directors of Duncan, OK.
