Boys State is a nationwide program of Americanism and good citizenship sponsored and conducted by the American Legion. It is a non-political, non-partisan program designed to enhance the love of God and Country in the youth of America. Boys State delegates learn the duties and responsibilities of citizenship by participation as citizens of mythical cities, counties, and states. In addition, delegates who successfully complete the one-week program may earn up to three college credits.
To be considered for Oklahoma Boys State, a young man must be between their junior and senior year of high school. Each interested applicant must complete an application and be approved by a local American Legion Post. Applications are accepted from public, private, and homeschooled students.
Delegates to Oklahoma Boys State are chosen for their high moral character, leadership, honesty, scholarship, and interest in government. Since its inception, thousands of boys have received this valuable citizenship training in Oklahoma. From the outstanding boys attending from across the state, two citizens of Oklahoma Boy State will be selected to represent Oklahoma at Boys Nation.
The Oklahoma Boys State program receives wholehearted support from citizens, civic groups, and other organizations interested in good government and youth leadership. Outstanding educators and leaders in state, county, and city government support or participate in the educational program of Oklahoma Boys State.
