The family moved to the Chickasha area and he always enjoyed helping his mother in her garden. As a young man, he helped the family by raising cows and chickens. He spoke often of walking his cows to graze and water them at Line Creek.
He attended Chickasha schools and was extremely proud of being able to receive a high school diploma in recent years. Edsel enlisted in the US Army Air Force in 1942, serving three and a half years during WWII. He was assigned to the Island Queen B-25 bomber and was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines, where he sustained a severe injury and came home in 1946.
In June of 1946, he married Juanita Omicka Christian. They shared almost 70 years together until her death in 2015.
Edsel was a hard worker and always had a smile on his face in every situation and even through his pain. He owned and operated his own trucking company for many years. Then he worked for Lamberts Trucking and later worked as a general manager over Hoffman’s Trucking. All through the years, he enjoyed tending a garden. His favorite pastime was fishing. After retirement, he and Juanita lived on many lakes and they loved to spend many early morning hours fishing. He also loved fishing with his grandsons and they have many stories to tell.
