Davis-Waldorf Performing Arts Series continues with a Harmonious Wail March 10

After a pandemic-related delay in 2020, the multi-award-winning trio Harmonious Wail will make their debut on the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma campus, Thursday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Continuing the 21st season of the Davis-Waldorf Performing Arts Series, this fiery folk ensemble will shake the Science & Arts Ballroom with their distinctive combination of genres ranging from the jazz of the Hot Club de France to the deepest blues of the Mississippi Delta to heartfelt folk scenes across Anytown, USA. Having seen the group virtually last season, audiences will be able to have a drink and chat in person with the trio featuring mandolin virtuoso and vocalist Sims Delaney-Potthoff, master bassist Jeffo Weiss, and vocalist extraordinaire Maggie Delaney-Potthoff, who also takes up percussion duties with a cardboard box (and almost any other household object).
“This group became one of my favorites when I got to experience their live porch concerts online last year,” said Katie Davis, professor of theatre arts and executive director of the series. “I’m excited to invite our subscribers and others from the community to share in the pub-feel of their concerts, meet these marvelous people, and have a feel-good night out with them.”
Tickets may be purchased online at usao.edu/dwpas at a cost of $15 for general admission, $10 for seniors 65+, and free for all Science & Arts and K-12 students. Seating is limited and season ticket holders will have priority access.
With more than 30 years of history, Harmonious Wail infuses each performance with a perfect balance of inspiration, emotion, wit and storytelling. As contemporary stewards of the Gypsy Jazz genre, the group has established the Midwest Gypsy Swing Fest, held twice a year in Madison, Wis. They are currently celebrating their fourth decade playing together with two new recordings: one showcasing their original compositions and the other a collection of Gypsy Jazz standards.
The Science & Arts Foundation presents the Davis-Waldorf Performing Arts Series with additional support from the Oklahoma Arts Council, Chickasha Public School Foundation, Mid-America Arts Alliance and corporate partners. Its mission is to regularly present professional performing arts events and facilitate attendance as an aspect of a liberal arts education for our students, to provide an affordable entertainment resource for our college family and our community, and to lead local arts education by creating access to relevant and culturally diverse programming that broadens the aesthetic of our audiences.
