OBITUARIES

Harvey Ray Berry

Memorial services for Harvey Ray Berry, 87, of Ninnekah, will be held at 10:30 Monday, January 3, 2022 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Jon Rehbein officiating.

Harvey was born May 26, 1934 in Agawam, Oklahoma, the son of Willie Seborn Berry and Rosie Lee (Tindel) Berry. He passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021, peacefully at home under the loving care of his wife of 35 years, Betty.

Harvey was raised on the family farm as the youngest of 9 children, having 5 sisters and 3 brothers.  He attended school in Agawam, often riding there on his white pony.  On August 1, 1955 he married Patricia Boatwright and they raised four children.  He later married Betty (Surles) Cherenyock and helped raise her three children.

He made a living in many ways. He hauled grain to Conroe, hay to Decatur and mud products to drilling rigs. He tore old buildings down and put new buildings up. He also worked in the oilfield. When he wasn’t tinkering on something of his own, he was helping someone else.  He could fix almost anything.  Through it all he was farming and raising cattle and making lifelong friends.

Harvey was a very caring and good-hearted person, both towards people and animals.  His dogs were his constant companions.  He loved watching westerns, especially ones starring John Wayne, who shared the same birthday.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Rosie Berry; brothers Cecil (Dude), A.V (Fat) and Jack; sisters Dorothy (Babe), Faye (Tince), Vera (Cotton), Jody, Margaret and one infant girl.

Survivors include his wife Betty Ann Berry; his children and their spouses: Michael and Ann Berry, Michelle and Gary Gamino, Marsha and Loren Schmidt, and Mitchell and Christy Berry; his stepchildren and their spouses:  Peter and Lynette Cherenyock, Darlene and Steve Greer, and Christina and Cody Oldham.   He also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; special buddy Cody Charlson, known as his “pup” and many other extended family and friends.

Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the SPCA.
