Chickasha Festival of Light continues through end of year

by Marylin Butorac, CTCN Community Correspondent
The 29th Annual Festival of Light in Chickasha is open nightly Sunday through Thursday from 6-10 pm and Friday and Saturday from 6-11 pm through December 31st at Shannon Springs Park. This amazing display is free to walk or drive through, although if you enjoy it there are donation boxes in the park. Your donation helps make sure this wonderful tradition continues for many years.
If you are walking through, you can find parking at 12th and Montana, Bill Wallace Early Childhood Center, Goodwill (after 8pm), College Heights Baptist Church (except Wednesdays and Sundays) and Parkview Baptist Church (except Wednesdays and Sundays). The drive through line forms on Grand Avenue.
Once inside the park, visitors can ice skate on the man-made rink. The rink opens at 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday, and 6 pm Monday through Friday. Cost is $8 per skater without skate rental and $12 per skater with skate rental. The most up to date information on the ice rink is on the FOL Facebook page. There is a carousel and a ferris wheel that patrons can ride of $5 per person. These attractions accept credit and debit cards.
Wednesday through Sunday visitors can enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride through the park for $8 per person. (Children under 3 are free.) Due to Covid, visitors are asked to provide their own blankets. Reservations are not accepted but each carriage holds 12-15 people and there are five carriages operating so the line moves quickly. The carriages accept cash only.
There is a food truck court and also various vendors in the walk through park, and your leashed, well behaved dog is welcome. If you want to see the lights from the sky, call Chickasha Wings to make reservations for a flyover at 405.224.8359.
Volunteers are still needed for some evenings and for the nightly Nativity play. Check the FOL Facebook page to find out more about these opportunities.
This year the FOL is partnering with the new December at the Depot event. The Rock Island Depot is located at the east end of Chickasha Avenue in Downtown Chickasha. Look for the Leg Lamp or the giant Christmas tree at the end of Chickasha Avenue near the train station. If you’re visiting the Depot, there’s also a shuttle to and from the Festival.
