Check out all the exciting programs at the Chickasha Public Library happening this month.
In addition to the Chickasha Public Library’s regular Preschool Storytime on Wednesday mornings, the Library hosts Beyond the Shelf, a youth library club ages 10 – 15 every Wednesday at 4:00 pm. Additional programs offered throughout February include:
February 17th at 11:00 am a class on Using Medication Safely, presented by the Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative. Using Medication Safely is a one-time class free to the public; there is no registration required. This program is designed to empower older adults to be more active participants in decisions regarding their medications. Through learning about all aspects of medications, these adults can significantly reduce the likelihood of experiencing a drug-related problem.
February 18th is the beginning of the Oklahoma Healthy Aging Initiative’s Diabetes and Beyond eight-week program. Classes are held in the Library’s meeting room on Tuesdays from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. Registration is required as space is limited, please call the Library at 405-222-6075 today if you are interested in this free series of health classes. Participants are provided with a comprehensive education on how to better manage diabetes. Through this interactive class, you will take control of your health by learning how to help control your diabetes with proper diet, exercise, and medication.
Using Medication Safely and Diabetes and Beyond classes are funded through the Oklahoma Department of Libraries with a federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Game Night at the Library on February 20th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Game night is free to the public and open to all ages, the Library provides various board games, and all are encouraged to join the fun. Participants are welcome to bring their games or play any of the Library’s games. Please note that children eight and younger must have an adult with them.
February 24th at 6:30 pm is the next Chapter Chat meeting; Chapter Chat is a book club, and it is open to new members. If you are interested in joining the book chats, please, contact the Library at 405-222-6075. The book this month is The Library Book by Susan Orlean, which explores the Los Angeles Public Library fire in 1986. Borrow your copy from the Chickasha Public Library or the Oklahoma Virtual Library today, if a copy is not available one can be reserved for you.
Please mark your calendars, the Chickasha Public Library is turning 115 years old, and we want you to join the week-long celebration! The celebration begins on March 23rd at 6:00 pm with Pat Cunningham, Grady County Historical Society Museum director presenting the Chickasha Public Library history from the founding of the Library through the years of the Carnegie building. March 26th at 6:00 pm Library staff member Michelle Skinner will speak on the history of the Library post-Carnegie building to the present. The Chickasha Public Library’s birthday party will be hosted on Saturday, March 28th, at 3:00 pm. To kick off the celebration, Chickasha Mayor Chris Mosley will speak, followed by Melody Kellogg, Director of Oklahoma Department of Libraries. These events are all free, and we would like to welcome you to join us in celebrating your Library!
