Winnie Mae Smith

A funeral service for Winnie Mae Smith, 92, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in the Plainview Mennonite Church.

Winnie Mae Smith was born May 30, 1932, in Walsh, Colorado to Elmer and Bertha (Jantz) Smith. She passed from this life on Saturday, September 14, 2024, in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

As a young child during the depression years, Winnie moved with her family back to Chickasha. She attended Sandlin School and helped with the family farm.

On January 6, 1956, she married Marvin Henry Smith, and they shared 62 years of life until his passing in 2018. Winnie raised her children and was a farm wife, always a helpmeet to Marvin with the farm.

She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, and baking. She was quiet, reserved, and a lady with a soft-spoken strength. Her heart and home were always open and she had a caring spirit of hospitality.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin, siblings Darvin Smith and Dorothy Unruh, granddaughter Jill Smith, great-grandson Skylar Don Nightingale, and sisters-in-law Geneva Smith and Josie Smith.

Loved ones left to remember her are her sons and daughters-in-law Weldon and Wilma Smith, Michael and Lavonna Smith and Timothy and Loretta Smith; daughters and son-in-law Susan Smith and Janolla and Oren Schmidt; brother Willis Smith; grandchildren and their spouses Ivan and Alison Smith, Beverly and Rowan Unruh, Melissa and Danny Nightingale, Teresa and Marshall Schmidt, Myron and Caleen Smith, Alexei Smith, Natalia and Chris Isaac, Trey Schmidt, Shayla Schmidt, and Drew and Laura Schmidt; special family friends Lindsay Kortemeier, Leslie Embrey, and Loren Schmidt; 11 great-grandchildren with 4 on the way; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.

Viewing for Winnie will be held Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm. at the Plainview Mennonite Church. Interment will be held in the Plainview Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
