Nov. 25, 1934 – Aug. 22, 2024
Chickasha, OK
James Grant Johns was born November 25, 1934, to James and Frances Johns. He passed away on August 22, 2024, at the age of 89, after an illness with Leukemia.
Jim graduated from Lawton High School in 1954.
In 1968, he met Barbara Harrell working with her at Chickasha Mobile Homes and they married in March 1969. Together they raised Grady Harrell. Jim was a great influence and a great dad to Grady.
Jim accepted the Lord as his Savior and asked Him into his heart at a young age. His life reflected his love for the Lord. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church and enjoyed his calling as head usher.
He retired from Dunn’s Food Center after 21 years of management. Even with dyslexia, Jim exceeded expectations and became a leader in whatever he was doing.
He was a master craftsman in woodworking and could create amazing works of art out of a piece of wood without even using a pattern.
In earlier years, Jim enjoyed many summers being a part of Falls Creek with his children. Jim and Barb loved to camp and were members of the Ada Hobo Club and Buffalo Sam in Lawton. They enjoyed camping with his sister and her husband, Sally and Ben Walker.
He was preceded in death by both parents James and Frances Johns, his sister Sally Walker, and granddaughter Margaret Johns.
Jim leaves behind his wife Barbara Johns of the home; son Grady Harrell and wife Caroline of Chickasha; daughter Donna Johns and friend Eddie and his daughter Kathryn of McKinney, Texas; son Ronnie Johns of Point, Texas; grandchildren Paige (Harrell) Vaquera and husband Mike, Trevor Harrell, Philip Johns, James Woods, and Sara Johns; special niece Georgia Hicks, who was by his side during this time; eight great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
A special thanks to the Glenhaven Retirement Village and Lifeline Hospice staff for the excellent care and love shown to Jim during his final days.
The funeral service for James “Jim” Johns will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, in the Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Emeritus Kim Hayes and Pastor Steve Volante officiating.
