Karen Marie Blackwood

Karen Marie Blackwood, age 71, of Verden, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at her home on August 14, 2024. Born on February 22, 1953, in Milford, Delaware, Karen was the daughter of Harold and Marie Bradley.

A life shaped by military service, Karen moved frequently with her family throughout her childhood. On June 3, 1971, she married Jeffery Blackwood, and together they continued to embrace the nomadic life required by his military career. In 1973, they settled in Lawton, Oklahoma, where Karen would spend the next 33 years. During her time in Lawton, Karen dedicated herself to her work as a librarian for the public school system, a role that reflected her lifelong passion for learning and education. In 2004, Karen and Jeffery moved to Verden, Oklahoma, where she continued to be an active and cherished member of the community. Known for her love of cooking and her warm hospitality, Karen’s home was always open to children and friends alike, creating a welcoming environment filled with joy and laughter.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Marie Bradley; sister Linda Bradley and granddaughter Kyrsten Blackwood.

Karen is survived by her loving husband, Jeffery Blackwood; daughter Amy Blackwood; son Jason Blackwood and his wife Susan; grandchildren JP, Lacie, Colten, Tristen, Kolby, Malik, Landon, and Caleb; great-grandchildren Camden, Adalynn, and Ellie; brothers Harold Bradley, Jr. and Lester Bradley; as well as many friends and family who will remember her for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to those she loved.

A funeral service to honor Karen’s life was held at 9:00 am on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Verden First Baptist Church with Rev. Troy Taylor officiating. Interment followed at 1:00 pm in the Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma, under the direction of McRay Funeral Home. Viewing was on Monday from 9:00 am until 7:00 pm.

She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
