Burley Givens was born January 26, 1923. He passed away on March 23, 2022.
Burley Givens united in holy matrimony to Eula Mae Irby on July 15th, 1942. From this union, four children were born: Wanda, Anita, Burley Fred, and Burlene.
Mr. Givens proudly served in the United States during World War II under General George C. Patton. He was assigned to the Louisiana Blue Army. Mr. Givens was part of invasion of Normandy Beach during D-Day on June 6, 1944. He was awarded 4 Bronze Stars, 4 Overseas Stripes, and a Good Conduct Medal. In 2014, Mr. Givens was acknowledged by President Barrack Obama receiving a certificate of commendation signed by the President.
After being discharged from the Army, Mr. Givens was employed for over 20 years as a driver for Daisy Levine. He also worked Maintenance Engineer for the Dixie Department Store which was also owned by the Levine’s. In addition to the Dixie Department, he worked as Maintenance Engineer at the Chickasha Clinic for over 35 years, and also a number of years at Eventide Nursing Home.
Those left to cherish the memories of Mr. Givens are three children: Burley Fred (Wynetta) of Chickasha, OK, Burlene Ellis-Graves of Chickasha, OK, and Wanda Hudson of CA, and one brother Hugh Dean Givens of Chickasha, OK, 16 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 40 great-great-grandchildren, Mr. Givens is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula, one daughter Anita Patterson, parents, Milton and Olivia Givens, sisters: Virgil, Mildred, Rose, and Bobbie, and brothers: Ernestine, Milton (Sam), Willie, James, and Emerald (Tom).
