Mary Pearl Shannon-Jones, an early Christmas gift, was the first of four children born to Ludie & Hattie Shannon on December 23rd, 1926. Other sibling includes LD Shannon, Jestine (Tumpsey) Shannon, and Leonard Shannon
Mary was born in Tillman County (Frederick, OK Area). At the tender age of 9, the family relocated to Carter County, Milo, OK. As a young bride, Mary and her spouse moved to Texas. After remarrying, she moved to Lawton, OK. In 1958, her final relocation was to Chickasha, OK, and she remained there until the Angels called her to her heavenly home.
In providing for her family, Mary worked various jobs which included a Cab Driver for Lenora Reed’s Cab Stand; her final place of employment was Grady Memorial Hospital. She was there as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for 45 years.
Her true passion was serving God. She was always active in the Church Community. Various positions held within the Church includes: President of the Women’s District National Baptist Commission; President of New Hope Womens Sunday School Teacher; Church Choir President; wherever, whenever, God needed her support. She received from several District Honors and from members of the Community.
Mary hobbies include making Peanut Brittle and gardening. She loved using her voice to praise God. She loved traveling. She loved people. She especially loved her family. She had an amazing gift for remembering numbers and dates.
Mary was preceded in death by both parents, Ludie & Hattie Shannon; two children, Ludie Martin and Linda Jones; siblings: Jestine Shannon and LD Shannon; great-granddaughter, Sh’lisha Johnson.
Family member whom are left behind to cherish the life and memories of Mary include children: Patricia Pickens of Milo, OK; Emeree (Willie Mae) Martin of Chicago, IL; Mona Jones of Chickasha, OK; Toni Williams of Vancouver, WA; Deborah (Ronnie) Godwin of Ardmore, OK; Gilbert Jones of Chickasha, OK.
Eighteen grandchildren: Ezette Pickens, Lavelle, Lester, Michael Pickens, Arvelle, Jr., Tywon Jones, Averyon Martin, Chris Martin, Shea Martin, Tony Martin, Laronda McCarther, Stormi Cloud, LaShawnda Jones, Dara’Donalde, Brandi Williams, James Williams, Sr., Tori Johnson, Carol Godwin, Jaron Godwin, and Ravin Jones.
Numerous great-greatgrandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one niece, Brenda Booker, and one nephew, Michael Cayton.
