Kayla Sue McKinney

A funeral service for Kayla Sue McKinney, 79, of Ninnekah, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with John Lechtenberg officiating.

Kayla Sue (Morris) McKinney was born January 6, 1945 in Purcell, Oklahoma to Johnathon Lawrence Morris and Marie (Keith) Morris. She passed from this life July 28, 2024 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Kayla attended Norman schools. On June 9, 1961, she married Aaron Lee McKinney, Sr. and they shared 55 years together until his passing in 2016.

Over the years, while raising her family, she also welded horse trailers, worked as a waitress and worked for Farmers Insurance. After Aaron and her began their roofing company, Aaron’s Quality Roofing, in 1977, she kept the books and ran the office.

When they were able to retire, Kayla would travel around fishing with Aaron. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching old TV classics and did not like shopping. She loved going with her sisters-in-law every Wednesday for lunch. She was a strong and loving woman with a contagious laugh. She was strong-willed and would tell it to you straight, you never had to wonder where you stood with her. She enjoyed having her grandchildren over for sleepovers and she would stay up as late as she could chatting with them. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren.

Kayla was preceded in death by both parents, her son Larry McKinney, her husband Aaron, Sr., brother Johnathon “Larry” Morris, Jr., granddaughters Erin McKinney and Jamie McKinney; brothers-in-law Nolan Smith, Carol Hubbard, and Don Cummins; and sister-in-law Joyce Wright.
