Attaway named Duncan Chief of Police

Interim City Manager Kenzie Wheeler announces the appointment of Major Brian Attaway, to the position of Chief of Police for Duncan Police Department effective as of Nov 1, 2023.
 “Major Attaway has done an exemplary job during his tenure with the Duncan Police Department and will continue to serve the citizens of the City of Duncan with integrity and professionalism” states Mrs. Wheeler.
 Major Attaway, a 25-year resident of the community, began his career in the criminal justice system in 1998 in Lawton. He became a patrol officer at Duncan Police Department in 2000, and took opportunities presented at the department to serve as a Field Training Officer, an Advanced Accident Investigator, a K-9 handler and as a member of the Special Response Team. He was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2007and became a Patrol Lieutenant in 2009 and a Patrol Captain in 2011.
 During his time as Patrol Captain, he contracted the complete remodel of the National Guard Armory that was donated to the City of Duncan and renamed the City of Duncan Criminal Justice Complex. This complex is now the main training site for officers, firefighters, and emergency management for City of Duncan as well as for numerous agencies in the surrounding area.
 In January 2023 he received a promotion to Major/Assistant Chief of Police where he oversaw daily operations. In his new role as Chief of Police, Attaway will also oversee the operational and capital budgets of the entire department, which includes 51 certified officers, 15 support staff, and 3 animal control officers.
 In accepting the appointment, Major Attaway states “I am honored to serve in my new role and look forward to continuing to serve the needs of the citizens of Duncan.
