Audra Hughes


Private Graveside Service to honor was held on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Fairlawn Cemetery where she was laid to rest beside her husband EJ, under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Audra was born on July 18, 1931, and grew up in the Vox Community in South Carolina, she helped on her family’s farm, and sang on a local radio station with her younger sister.

In 1947, Audra left school at 16 to marry EJ Hughes, just home from serving in the Navy. They raised 3 girls and a boy while moving to several states where EJ worked for International Paper. After EJ died in 2002, she moved to Chickasha to be near family.

Audra was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and gardener, and had a special love of birds and butterflies. She was an avid reader and enjoyed volunteering at the Chickasha Public Library. She sang in her church’s choir and helped with summer children’s activities there. She was also a member of the McDowell Music Club and OHCE for several years.

Audra is survived by her 4 children and spouses, 6 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren: daughter, Anita Moydell and spouse David of Chickasha, OK; daughter, Dee Davis, and spouse, Harold of The Colony, TX; daughter, Candice Scroggins of Mesa, AZ; and son, Steven Hughes of Columbia, SC; granddaughter, Rebecca Kinslow and spouse Justin of Chickasha, OK and son Austin; grandson Daniel Davis and spouse Kristen, of Hurst, TX and son Drew and daughter Katie; grandson Philip Davis and spouse Meghan of Denton, TX and daughters, Kayleigh and Laney; grandson, Lucas Scroggins of Chickasha, OK; and granddaughters, Sydney Hughes and Jordan Hughes of Columbia, SC.

Audra showered her family with love and will be missed greatly.
