John Allen Merritt


 John Allen Merritt was born January 22, 1991, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha, Oklahoma. John was the son of Otis Dean Merritt and Barbara Lee (Allen) Merritt. John passed away on April 16, 2022, in Yukon, OK, at the age of 31.
 Memorial Service honoring John Allen Merritt, a resident of Yukon, will be Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at the Epworth United Methodist Church under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Reverend Kyle Clark will officiate. The family will meet with guests after the service.
 John spent the first 18 years of his life living in Agawam, OK. He attended Ninnekah Elementary School from Pre-K to the Third grade. Then he transferred to Chickasha Public Schools and graduated from Chickasha High School in 2009. John received the History Award for his graduating class. While in high school, John was a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, the Soccer Team, and Swim Team. He attended Boys State and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Camp. John volunteered at Summer Food and Fun and at the Community Thanksgiving Dinner for many years. As a child, John volunteered at Christian Care Nursing Home by participating in Style Shows, Talent Shows, and Pet Parades. He also delivered homemade cards and treats to residents.
 John continued his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. He graduated in May of 2013 with a BSN degree in Nursing. While living in Weatherford, John attended Emmanuel Baptist Church, the BCM (Baptist College Ministry), and went to Glorieta Church Camp in New Mexico.
 He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, an Eagle Scout, and a Registered Nurse. He worked for two years at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City, OK, and for seven years at OU Medical Center in the Neuroscience ICU, in Oklahoma City. He loved to travel with his family and his friends. He enjoyed reading, swimming, watching movies, and playing various electronic games.
 He is survived by his mother Barbara Merritt of Yukon, OK., his sister Ashlee Merritt of Yukon, and numerous cousins, friends, and coworkers.
 He was preceded in death by his father, his paternal grandparents William Robert and Emma Josephine Merritt of Agawam, OK, attended school there for 2 years, studying his trade and living in a boarding house with other students.
