She grew up in the Spring Creek community and attended school at Star School. On February 7, 1948, she married Odis Holdge at the First Baptist Church, Anadarko. They started their married life farming with Odis’s dad for several year. During this time three sons were born, Dwayne, Dennis and Larry.
Verna Dean was proud of being a housewife and taking care of her family. When Odis went to driving a rock truck during the building of Ft. Verna Dean worked right beside Odis for 33 years, serving up fountain drinks, coffee and the best malts on her side of the Station. She could also pump that gas when Odis was busy fixing flat tires. They retired in 1998, giving them time to do some traveling and spending time enjoying their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
They celebrate 60 years of marriage and were only 28 days of making 61 years when Odis passed away in January 2009. After his passing and some medical problems Verna Dean moved to assisted living in Chickasha where she spent several years meeting new friends and being “waited” on.
