John Andrew Schlecht was born December 2, 1939, in Amber, Oklahoma, the son of Ambrose F. Schlecht and Mary M. (Novotny) Schlecht. He passed away February 5, 2022, at his home in Ninnekah, Oklahoma at the age of 82.
 Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 10, 2022, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Sue Lykins officiating. Interment was in Ninnekah Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
 John grew up in the Ninnekah area and attended grade school at Ninnekah. He then graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Chickasha.
 After high school, he entered the United States Army for three years. He came back to Ninnekah and was a rancher and farmer until his retirement.
 On June 30, 1973, he married Doris Marie Taylor and they had many years together.
 Survivors include his daughter Scherrie and husband Leonard Santos of Ninnekah, daughter Donelle Lee of Ninnekah, son John Hamil of Shelbyville, TN, son Michael and wife Beckey Hamil of Bethany, and daughter Dianna Turpin and husband Chad Chadrick of Chickasha, sister JoAnn Yearwood of Crestview, FL, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.
 John was preceded in death by both his parents, his wife Doris Schlecht, brother Louis Schlecht brother-in-law Jim Yearwood and son-in-law Greg Lee.
