Dr. Richard “Doc” Adams


Funeral services for Dr. Richard Adams, 67, of Chickasha were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2021 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kim Hayes officiating.

Richard Norman Adams, known by most as Doc Adams, was born in Auckland, New Zealand to Sydney Adams and Barbara (Jackson) Adams, and grew up in in Mount Wellington. He died Sunday, November 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

He graduated from Penrose High school in 1971 and then attended college in Otago and moved to the United States in the late 70s. He attended Palmer School of Chiropractic in Iowa where he graduated in 1980. Doc then moved to Chickasha in 1982 where he opened his practice and worked for 39 years. He played for the University of Oklahoma Rugby Football Club from 1982-1986. He influenced many young players that went on to have impacting careers on the OU Rugby team for years to follow.  He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and the Chickasha community.

Doc was preceded in death by his mother and father and a sister, Judy Koha.

Survivors include his children Stephanie Hanks, Lance Adams, Chassidy Adams, Whitney Worsham and husband James, and Ian Adams; two sisters Jan Blyde and husband Lance and Wendy Hobson and husband Steve; brother Allan Adams and wife Christine; ten grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
