Vernon Wesley Whaley


 Vernon Wesley Whaley was born Friday, August 7, 1942 in Hayward, CA, to Herbert Lee and Virgie Beatrice (Earley) Whaley. He passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021 in Oklahoma City at the age of , 79.
 Funeral services were held Monday, August 23, 2021, at the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church in Rush Springs, with Rev. David Hale officiating and burial following at the Fort Cobb Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Marlow, Oklahoma.
 Vernon graduated from Oney Public Schools near Binger.
 In 1961 Vernon enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War.
 On June 26, 1963, he married the love of his life, Caron Sue Martin, in Wichita Falls.
 Vernon’s greatest passion was spreading the word of God. He spent his life working as a pastor in Oklahoma, Utah, Missouri, and Arkansas.
 Vernon was a well-rounded man; he was a handy man when there were things to be fixed, an avid fisherman, especially when it came to catfish and crappie, and a hard worker whether he was in his garden or helping his friends and family. He was a caring man and was always concerned about others and their walk with God.
 Survivors include his wife, Sue Whaley of the home, his son, Kevin Wesley Whaley and fiancée, Brandy Maddox, of Greenwood, SC, two daughters, Nickie McCoy and husband, Russell, of Rogers, AR, and Cara Harper and husband, Kevin, of Rush Springs, 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
 He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Wade, Boyd, and Hank Whaley, and two sisters, Jean McCrea and Helen Wilcox.
