Donald Eugene Monroe


Funeral services for Donald Eugene Monroe, 91, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021 in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

Donald Eugene Monroe was born July 11, 1930 in Amber, Oklahoma. He passed from this life on August 20, 2021 at his home in Amber.

Don was born the youngest child to E.C. and Mattie (Roberts) Monroe. He lived most of his life in the Amber community, except for a couple years in Texas and the time he served in the Army during the Korean war. He was a farmer, heavy equipment operator and worked at Tinker field.  He was a member of the First Baptist church in Amber where he served as Sunday School Director and song leader. He was a charter member of the Amber Lions Club.

He and Shirley Russell were married June 1, 1952 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. To this union was born a son Gary, a daughter Linda, 5 granddaughters, 3 great-grandsons, 2 great-granddaughters and one great-great-granddaughter.

Don loved the Lord, family, and his country.

He enjoyed flying, travel, horses, old cowboy movies, old cowboy songs and southern gospel singing.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Monroe, his parents, two sisters Inez and Lucile, and two brothers Morris and Gerald.

Survivors include his son Gary and wife Anita of Oklahoma City, one daughter Linda Esgar of Norman; granddaughters Gina Keeling and husband Bart of Norman, Brandy Hooten of Canton, Jessica Monroe of Tuttle, Lindsay Riddle and husband Chad of Tuttle, Lesley Rainy and husband Dylan of Tuttle; several nieces and nephews; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Special persons are Tammy Monroe and Lynette Johnson.

Viewing will be Wednesday, August 25th from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home located in Chickasha.
