John Martin Carroll


Memorial service for John Martin Carroll, age 79 of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 11:00 Friday, August 6th, 2021  at St.Thomas More University Parish Church in  Norman, Oklahoma. Father Jim Goins will officiate.

John was born the son of John C Carroll and Nannie Carroll on August 6th, 1941 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He died in his sleep on July 29th in his home in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

John graduated from Chickasha High School in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He later graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Radio and Television broadcasting. Upon graduating from OSU, John became a radio station disk jockey in Dallas, TX where he had a morning radio show with two other friends. Johns’ father talked him into coming back to. Chickasha to help him run Carroll Oil Company which John would later take over from his dad.  On May 23rd, 1970, he married Carole Ann Marti in Chickasha. John worked the majority of his life in the oil and gas business making important and lifelong friendships along the way and retired in 2018. Throughout his life John loved golfing, and attending Oklahoma State football and basketball games (as well as watching Oklahoma State compete in pretty much any athletic event). He competed several years in the 4th of July Washita Valley Golf Tournament and enjoyed the events surrounding the tournament at the Chickasha Golf and Country Club where he was a member. Every time that John would travel to Arizona to visit his son he would have to make a stop at the Sugar Bowl and make sure he saved room for a delicious ice cream treat for desert. He would join friends to go to Eishchen’s or other get togethers where his bigger than life laugh was always enjoyed by all. John always had a good joke and enjoyed making people laugh and enjoy life. John was also very appreciative of all that his daughter did for him during his last few months of his life.

John was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and sang in the choir. His love for music, especially jazz, was enjoyed by his family and he loved having just the right song to play at dinner time or request from a performing artist when he would take his family out to eat for special occasions. John was very fond of his grandchildren and was always excited to get to spend time with them. John was a member of the Oklahoma Petroleum Marketers Association, Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and was a life member of the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Survivors include; son Chris Carroll and wife Lindsey; daughter Marti Smicklas and husband Brad; grandchildren Caroline Clara, Hudson Christopher, Harrison Houston; sister-in-law Martha Marti, brother-in-law Fred Marti and wife Sherry; Nephew Todd Marti; nieces Debi Perras and Lori Godwin.
