The OHCE (Oklahoma Home and Community Education) honored two local veterans with Quilts of Honor at their Fall Council meeting on October 20.
 The first hand-made quilt was presented to Army Veteran Rick Stitt. Rick, a Colorado native and current Chickasha resident, has mowed over 300 yards for free this year. The voluntary mission he undertook, has allowed him to serve the elderly, disabled and fellow veterans. Rick is also known to take in shelter dogs, people with no place to go and gives rides to those who need them. His selfless acts and desire to serve those in his community are more than admirable. Rick, who says he finds the limelight uncomfortable was also quoted as saying what he does is a “true labor of love.”
 The second quilt was given to Airforce Pilot and Veteran Homer Hulme. Homer says one of the most memorable moments of his life was when he had to fly an aircraft carrying a nuclear bomb. He recently celebrated his 87th birthday. Homer is a retired CPA, Former Accounting Instructor, former Mayor of Chickasha and an avid collector of things like coins, windmills, lodge goods, guns and much more. Homer started an endowment for the Chickasha High School Wrestlers and has given 36 thousand dollars to 18 programs at the Chickasha Public Schools. He even has a street in Chickasha named after him.
 At the end of the presentation, and as a surprise to the ladies at the meeting, Homer Hulme presented five separate checks to representatives of each division of the Grady County OHCE.
 According to the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension website, OHCE is an organization committed to education about family and consumer issues, community service, and bringing friends together. OHCE members are adults of all ages and genders who are interested in continuing their education in family life skills.
